Transform CA Opens Sacramento Office

12_16_08_dome.jpg

Transform California, formerly the Bay Area Transportation and Land Use Coalition, is opening a California office to better lobby state officials and hold them accountable for their transportation misdeeds.  While a Bay Area based group isn't going to be helpful in getting everything we need in Southern California, there is something to be said for having someone with a permanent base in the Capital looking out for transit and transportation issues.

To read the announcement of the opening of their new office, read on after the jump.

For too long, a fox has been watching the chicken
coop.  And the fox's name is Governor Schwarzenegger.

Governor Schwarzenegger is doing everything
in his power to kill state funding for public transportation.

He's already taken almost $2 billion of state transit funds this year and put
them into the General Fund.  And now he's proposed permanently eliminating
the only source of state funding for public transportation operations, the
State Transit Assistance program!  All this while he claims to be a leader
on climate change.

Enough.  We need to band together, stop this proposal, and build a
movement to win long-term solutions to these kinds of problems.  In 2009, TransForm will open an office in Sacramento to help fill
the void in leadership on transportation issues at the state level.

But we can't do it alone.  We
need you as an activist and supporter.

And we need you now.

First, take action through our website and
tell key legislators to block the Governor's proposal.

Second, help ensure we have the resources needed to launch our efforts in Sacramento.  Please

Our quality of life and environment are at serious risk.  Only by working
together at every level of government can we make it affordable, safe, and easy
for people to get to jobs, services, and nature on foot, bicycle and public
transportation.

Thank you in advance for your support of our crucial work,

Stuart
